Questions about the TEVMOT Project process

No, they do not. It was deemed appropriate in the TEVMOT Project to replace alternating current (AC), asynchronous, 3-phase, squirrel-cage motors with a nominal power range of 7.5–375 kW with the high energy efficient motors.

No. It is considered appropriate to replace alternating current (AC), asynchronous, 3-phase, squirrel-cage motors with a nominal power range of 7.5–375 kW with the high energy efficient motors.

Old inefficient motors specified in the audit report approved by the TEVMOT Project Management must be replaced with new, energy-efficient electric motors, as also specified in the audit report, and the old inefficient motors must be delivered to the project free of charge for recycling.

Yes. The TEVMOT Project aims to ensure a “market transformation” in Turkey through the replacement of inefficient electric motors used in industry with high energy-efficient electric motors, and to encourage further significant investments into energy efficiency. In line with this goal, old inefficient motors will be received by the project free of charge for recycling, following the completion of the replacement.

The inefficient motors that have been replaced will be taken from your company by licensed waste management companies on the same day after the waste / scrap registration is made to the Mobile Waste Tracking System (MoTAT) through the Environmental Management Consultant with whom your compay has an agreement, and will be sent for recycling.

The energy-efficient electric motors to be replaced are those specified in the audit report, having been approved by the TEVMOT Project Management.

Companies will be responsible for technical issues concerning transportation, assembly, installation etc. during motor replacement.

Companies will be responsible for technical issues concerning transportation, assembly, installation etc. during motor replacement.

Companies can purchase any brand from the motor supplier of their choice, provided that the new, energy-efficient electric motors to be purchased are at least IE3 efficiency class, and meet the technical specifications approved in the audit report.

Among the basic criteria are the annual operating hours of the motor, motor power, motor workload, number of rewindings, year of manufacture and efficiency class.

In the walk-through energy audits, the motors are scored and prioritised considering such criteria as the annual operating hours, motor power, motor workload, number of rewindings, production year and efficiency class. Following these studies, the 15 motors with the highest scores are selected.

At least five motors among the first 15 motors selected following the walk-through audit will be included in a detailed audit to measure current, voltage and power. Aside from these measurements, criteria such as workload and working hours are also taken into consideration and, if possible, a motor with a lower nominal power is recommended to ensure energy efficiency. In this evaluation process, not only the electric motor but also the drive system, motor control equipment and motor load (pump, fan, process/production machine, etc.) are evaluated, and suggestions are made for the most efficient operation of the system.

Technical questions

It can be calculated as follows: Efficiency in Electric Motors = the power taken from the motor shaft/the power drawn from the network

Although the procurement time is a little longer than for IE3 motors, IE4 motors are produced in Turkey. Since there is as yet little demand for IE5 motors in the market, there are currently no motors produced in the IE5 efficiency class in Turkey.

Frequent questions about the “Energy Efficient Electric Motors Replacement Support” provided by KOSGEB’s SME Development Programme

The maximum grant amount of TRY 80.000 is valid for every SME scale company located in one of the seven OIZs in which the TEVMOT Project is being implemented for which energy audits have been completed and motor replacements have been approved within the scope of the project.

The upper limit of support is TRY 80,000. For example, for the purchase of an energy efficient motor with an invoice amount of TRY 100,000 + VAT, the support amount that can be received by a SME is 60 percent of the invoice amount (VAT excluded), equating to TRY 60,000.

“Within the scope of the energy efficient electric motors replacement support, in case of application with a domestic goods certificate obtained in accordance with the Domestic Goods Communiqué No. SGM 2014/35 published by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology in the Official Gazette No. 29118 dated 13/09/2014, the determined support rate will be increased by 15 percent.” KOSGEB ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES, Article 5, Pg.3 UE-14/05 Rev. 17/09/2020

In other words, the amount of support may be increased to TRY 75,000.

The “Cooperation Protocol” signed between the Directorate General for Strategic Research and Productivity of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey and KOSGEB expires on 31.12.2021.

Newly purchased energy-efficient electric motors can be either domestic or imported, depending on the company’s preference, provided that they are at least IE3 efficiency class and meet the motor technical specifications deemed appropriate in the approved audit report.

The purpose of the support is to encourage enterprises to use energy-efficient electric motors. Therefore, only energy-efficient electric motors are covered by the support.

Yes. For energy-efficient electric motors, the replacement of which has been approved by the TEVMOT Project Management, the company must first purchase the motors; and the old inefficient motors must be delivered to the project free of charge for recycling.

There is no such practice within the scope of the “Energy Efficient Electric Motors Replacement Support” of KOSGEB.
