The \u201c7th OIZ Energy Summit\u201d, with the theme of \u201cEnergy Efficiency\u201d, was held with the participation of Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology, and Fatih D\u00f6nmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, in the JW Marriott Hotel Ankara on 14 January, 2020. In his opening speech, Minister Varank introduced the TEVMOT Project to the Energy Summit participants, and said: \u201cAs the Ministry, we are launching our pilot project in seven OIZs in seven provinces with the contributions of the Organised Industrial Zones, OSB\u00dcK and KOSGEB\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
Talking about the rationale behind the TEVMOT Project, Minister Varank stated that 47 percent of the net electricity consumption in Turkey is attributable to the industrial sector, and that 90 percent of the electric motors used in the industry are ineffi cient. In this sense, Minister Varank emphasised that inefficient motors should be replaced with new motors s with higher technologies and greater efficiency, ensuring a significant decrease in the electricity consumed by the manufacturing sector. In the process of replacing inefficient electric motors with energy efficient motors, he said, a financing mechanism was established under the umbrella of KOSGEB\u2019s SME Development Support and the United Nations Development Program and stated that the mechanism will give industrialists access to direct financial support.<\/p>\n\n
Varank then explained the motor replacement model step-by-step: \u201cLet\u2019s say you are a company working in one of the listed OIZs. In the first stage, a team of expert consultants will carry out a detailed energy audit of your facility. If this team detects inefficiency, and deems the solution to be the replacement of the electric motors in your facility, you will be offered support. Let\u2019s assume that the cost of a replacement motor is TRY 100,000. We will provide 60 percent of this 100,000 TL, equating to 60,000 TL, to the industrialist as a grant. In other words, the cost to the industrialist will be only 40,000 TL. If the energy-efficient motors you will purchase has a Domestic Goods certificate, we will provide 75 percent of the 100,000 TL. Accordingly, if you opt to purchase a domestic motor, you will pay only 25,000 TL for a motor costing 100,000 TL. I hope we can start the first application as early as next week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
In the Energy Efficiency in Industry Session of the Summit, Dr. Mustafa Kemal Akg\u00fcl, Head of the Department of Productivity Applications at the Directorate General of Industry and Productivity of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, shared details of the TEVMOT Project with the participants of the Summit, providing information on energy efficiency in electric motors as well as TEVMOT Project activities.<\/p>\n\n
